Sustainability overview

FabaPro™ is designed to support lower-emission feed supply through domestic sourcing and responsible production practices.

Compared to imported soybean meal from mixed global origins, FabaPro™ offers a different sustainability profile across several dimensions.

Carbon footprint

FabaPro™ is made from UK-grown pulses with no associated deforestation or overseas land use change. Shorter supply chains and domestic production contribute to a lower embedded carbon footprint.

Inputs

Faba beans fix atmospheric nitrogen and are grown without synthetic nitrogen fertiliser. This reduces input intensity and supports more efficient nutrient use within arable rotations.

Soil and water

As part of arable rotations, pulses contribute to soil structure and fertility and support improved water quality through reduced nutrient losses.

Biodiversity

Flowering pulse crops provide forage for pollinators and beneficial insects, contributing to biodiversity within UK farmed landscapes.

UK provenance

Every tonne of FabaPro™ is grown and processed in the UK and meets Red Tractor assurance as a minimum standard.

Growing standards and traceability

FabaPro™ can be supplied through two pathways, both meet the same core nutritional specification. The difference lies in the growing standards applied and the level of production and traceability data provided.

This approach allows customers to choose the level of information that best fits their requirements, while maintaining consistency in feed performance.

Commodity pathway - Available April 2026

Beans are grown to established assurance standards, including Red Tractor, and supplied with UK provenance.

This pathway is suitable where basic assurance and consistent nutritional performance meet customer needs.

Verified pathway - Under Development

Beans are grown to one of the BritPulse Growing Standards currently under development.

This pathway is designed to provide enhanced traceability and a higher level of production data, potentially including agronomy, crop nutrition and yield information. As standards evolve, this pathway may support verified environmental outcomes and calculated crop-level emissions data where required by customers.

The verified pathway is being developed with pilot farms to ensure it remains practical, proportionate and valuable for growers and customers alike.

FabaPro™ provides a practical way to incorporate homegrown pulses into livestock diets today, while supporting the development of more resilient, traceable and lower-emission food system.
